MSC World Cruise 2022. 43 world treasures in 117 days

The ports of Civitavecchia (Italy), Genova (Italy), Marseille (France) and Barcelona (Spain) from 4 to 7 January 2022 will be the starting points for this magical journey onboard MSC Poesia.

Destination South America

After leaving the Strait of Gibraltar behind, MSC Poesia will set sail towards South America. The transatlantic crossing ends in Salvador de Bahia, the Brazilian city with wonderful artwork, where you can witness a mystical capoeira dance perfomance. During your cruise you will sail along the Eastern coast of South America and visit wonderful cities such as the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. In Argentina, you will visit Buenos Aires – birthplace of the Tango and finally once in Montevideo in Uruguay, you can experience its lively Mercado del Puerto.
Our route south continues towards Puerto Madryn in Patagonia, Argentina, where you can witness the majestic whales in their natural protected marine habitat. Finally, you will discover Ushuaia in Argentina and Tierra del Fuego; with a landscape of dramatic glaciers and the sight of wild penguins, it really does feel like the Edge of the World.

Sailing the Strait of Magellan

During the cruise, you will sail the Strait of Magellan, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Pacific Ocean. Here you can witness nature in all its dramatic power and glory, as the waves of the two oceans meet and crash together. This one-of-a kind experience alone is almost worth a whole trip.

From here the ship sails north up the continent along the coast of Chile. On the way you will visit Punta Arenas and Puerto Montt, dominated by the spectacular snow-capped Orsono volcano. Finally, you will discover the lively port and city of Valparaiso.

Lima and Rapa Nui's mystery

Walking through Lima, the capital of Peru, is like travelling back to the colonial era, with its elegant architecture and evocative wooden balconies. A stroll down the street will make you see why this has been named a UNESCO World Heritage site. While you are here try and make time for the Gold Museum – it is well worth a visit for its beautiful treasures. From Lima we set out to see the gigantic hieroglyphics of the Nazca Lines.

Next, we will visit Easter Island and the port of Hanga Roa/Rapa Nui, in Chile. This legendary island, in the midst of the Pacific Ocean, has been the source of endless debate. No one has managed to explain the mystery of the Moai - the gigantic statues standing in different parts of the island. Who built them and why? How were they moved? What do they mean? These are all questions that have fascinated scientists and visitors alike.

Navigating between paradises

In the next part of the journey you can get to experience what it must have been like for the first explorers and travellers who set eyes on these tropical wonders. Here you can see enchanting lagoon and the crystal-clear sea. You can sample delicious fruits, marvel at the lush forests, witness traditional dances and hear music you have never heard before. You will experience it as the painter Paul Gaugin did, between the lagoons and villages of Papeete

This dawn of civilization is experienced in Rarotonga and the enchanting lagoon of Muri Beach in the Cook Island. Along the way we visit French Polynesia - a little paradise where no building is taller than a coconut tree. We also visit Aukland, the gateway to the other ports of New Zealand. To conclude this part of this exciting journey, we stop overnight in the iconic port of Sydney, Australia, with its famous opera house and see a city surrounded by nature, where kangaroos and surfers coexist peacefully.

Then on to the atolls and petrified gardens of Maré and Lifou Island in New Caledonia, which are nothing short of spectacular. In Port Vila in Vanuatu you can try a spot of snorkelling and witness the amazing life beneath the crystal-clear water. In Alotau, Papua New Guinea, you can try sunbathing on the dark volcanic sands. Finally, Cairns in Australia will amaze you with its crocodiles and is a great opportunity to enjoy the lively daily markets for fruit, clothing and souvenirs.

Eastern magic

The final part of this magical cruise around the world is dedicated to the fascinating sights of Southern East Asia. Singapore is a vivid city, where iconic buildings like Raffles Hotel coexist with the exotic Zoo, the National Orchid Garden and Peranakan Museum.

In Lombok in Indonesia, there’s the chance to swim under the frozen waterfalls of Senaru, which is an unmissable experience. You will also visit Port Klang in Kuala Lumpur and see its famous temples and sample the delicious seafood. Next destinations are Colombo in Sri Lanka, Mumbai in India. To culminate the tour, we have scheduled in a truly unique visit to Petra in Jordan – which stands as one of the seven wonders of the world – before transiting the Suez Canal back to the Mediterranean.
