King's Wharf/Hamilton

Nature’s wild charm

The cruise ships navigating Bermuda dock at King's Wharf, the original pier of the Royal Navy Dockyards. It is located in Sandys Parish, on the western tip of Bermuda, and is the largest port of the archipelago.

Travellers docking here with an MSC cruise to the Caribbean will have their every need met by the modern tourist complex, which includes a shopping mall; museums such as the National Museum of Bermuda; historical buildings dating back to the 19th century, when the British Navy was active in the area; restaurants, pubs and bars; and artisan shops, where it is possible to purchase as well as observe the making of glass and Bermuda juniper objects. Infrastructure and services for practicing the most varied of athletic and recreational activities are also available.

Both over land and over sea, it is possible to reach the cities of Hamilton and St. George, part of UNESCO heritage and the first capital of Bermuda. On King's Square, in the centre of St. George, you will be able to admire the Town Hall, which stands before instruments of public punishment used during British rule: the stocks and the pillory. A short distance away, the sinister Ducking Stool, a stool at the top of a pole to which petty thieves and gossips where tied and then dipped into the sea.

North of the city, the Unfinished Church, reminiscent of the skeleton of a Gothic cathedral, is worth a visit. From here, it is possible to go onto mini-cruises that will take you snorkelling to the coral reefs farther out or to see many submerged relics. In addition, you can water ski, ride a water scooter, windsurf and sail. You can even go on a bicycle excursion or play on an 18-hole mini-golf course. Make sure to visit Cooper's Island, not far from the lighthouse of St. David Island. An area of wild charm, it was opened to the public in 1995, when the US Navy left the island.

One of Bermuda’s finest gems is the government-owned golf course at Port Royal, which is ranked among the world’s best by Golf Digest and was voted the island’s No. 1 golfing spot by the New York Times. It is also Bermuda’s longest and most picturesque golf course, offering lovers of the game a truly awe-inspiring experience with superb ocean views almost from start to finish. Recently given a comprehensive and costly overhaul right down to the 19th hole – a bit of a makeover Mulligan, one might say – the course’s 18 links now boast TifEagle turf, a cutting edge irrigation system and an oceanfront driving range. Your half-day outing begins with your transfer to the course, after which it’s up to you to prove your prowess on the greens. Out-birdie yourself and play an eagle, make history by achieving a condor on a par 5 and look forward to the 16th – the club’s signature – hole, a fantastic, crescent-shaped par 3 corker with just the Atlantic Ocean covering the distance from tee to pin. Once you’ve finished your round of golf on this outstanding course, you’ll understand why is it so highly rated the world over. Your return to the ship then brings the tour to a close. Please note: guests must be at least 10 years of age to take part. To avoid disappointment, guests are requested to observe the club’s strict dress code: shirt with a collar, Bermudas, knee-length shorts or trousers, sports socks, golf or tennis shoes. Guests wearing jeans, halter-neck tops, flip-flops, swim- or beachwear will be denied entry to the club complex. The price of the tour includes round-trip transportation, green fee and shared cart hire. Clubs can also be hired at additional cost not covered by the price of the tour. The tour is only available during the call on 12 April 2016.

              Bermuda

The state with a thousand bridges

A vacation in Bermuda during your cruise means visiting an archipelago of over 300 islands of various sizes, 180 of which joined by roads and bridges.

And it is one of these roads, the South Road, one of the main roads of Bermuda, that leads to one of the most fascinating beaches you can visit in the capital: Elbow Beach, Coral Beach, Surf Side Beach: a route along coves and paths that meander in the vegetation and then open up onto the turquoise sea.

But just one excursion is not sufficient to visit the multitude of beaches that line these coasts, from the spectacular Horseshoes Bay Beach in Southampton Parish, a long stretch of fine, pink sand, to Jobson’s Cove, embraced by rocks and facing the transparent water.

But Tucker’s Town is the great attraction of the “the smallest of great places in the world” as Mark Twain defined it. Here on this private island you find the most luxurious properties. You cannot leave Bermuda without tasting two typical cocktails prepared in one of its bars facing the ocean: the Dark and Stormy: a quarter dark rum and three quarters ginger beer; and the Rum Swizzle: dark rum, lime and orange juice, sweetened with Falernum.
